Description:
I created Magnolia in 2000 while living in London. Every spring, I was captivated by the intense colours of the magnolia and cherry trees in bloom. Their beauty stirred such strong emotions in me that I felt compelled to capture that experience through my art.

At first, I tried photographing and painting the trees as a whole, but the results never truly expressed what I felt when standing beneath them. I decided to take a cubist approach, breaking down the image into parts to better convey the energy, emotion, and movement I experienced.

Magnolia remains one of my personal favourites because it comes closest to expressing the magnificence and vitality of those trees in spring—not just as they appear, but as they made me feel.
