"BAR SAN GIORGIO," SICILY 1994-97

This photograph, part of a series captured entirely on analogue cameras, reflects my passion for film photography during that era. Some of my favourite tools of the time included the Pentax 6x7 medium format, Leica M6, and, in particular, the Polaroid 600 with black-and-white negatives, which we developed on-site. Carrying the fixing agent and cleaning water was sometimes challenging, and I had to rely on the invaluable support of my assistants, these efforts added to the process's tactile nature. Other favourites included the Hasselblad 500C/M and the Linhof 4x5 Technika. Each frame, including this one, embodies the tactile charm and timeless quality that only analogue methods can provide.

From 1993 to 1997, Sicily held a special place in my heart as one of my favourite locations for photo productions. I found myself repeatedly drawn to the island's captivating blend of history and culture, returning time and again to capture its essence through fashion shoots and commercial projects. I was captivated by the intriguing juxtaposition of real-life scenes and cinematic clichés, where everyday attire seemed to mirror that of characters from the silver screen. The pervasive influence of Catholicism in the region left a lasting impression on me, evident in the cultural references woven into daily life.
